What changed

On September 23, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Palmetto GBA, LLC a new contract for the administration of Medicare Part A and Part B Fee-for-Service (FFS) claims in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia (also known as A/B MAC Jurisdiction M). For Part B services, A/B MAC Jurisdiction M excludes the counties of Arlington and Fairfax in Virginia along with the city of Alexandria in Virginia (serviced by another MAC jurisdiction, Jurisdiction L). In addition to the A/B MAC services, JM also processes FFS Medicare Home Health & Hospice (HH+H) claims for the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. As Palmetto GBA is the incumbent contractor for this A/B MAC jurisdiction, CMS anticipates that implementation of the new contract will go smoothly, with few (if any) disruptions in service for Medicare beneficiaries and providers.
